Elisabeth was born with a complex congenital heart defect that required her to undergo open-heart surgery. After surgery, Elisabeth suffered serious post-op complications which led to more heart procedures and becoming dependent on a breathing machine for 55 days to keep her alive.  During one of the heart procedures that followed after her surgery, Elisabeth developed a blood clot that traveled to her brain and led to a massive stroke that paralyzed her on the left side of her body.  Since the stroke, Elisabeth has fought tirelessly to achieve every milestone that comes so naturally for other children.  From rolling over and clapping to standing up and, ultimately walking, Elisabeth has chartered her own path to mastering each goal.  Elisabeth has spent the better part of her life in hospitals, doctors offices, and therapy, but has always managed to keep a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye.  She is a miracle, and so is her journey.
